The World of Baisa is a homecoming to Rajasthan, seen through a contemporary eye.
The collection follows Moomal and Rukmani as they return to a world they have always known, discovering its beauty again after time away. Palace interiors, floral inlays, painted walls, the reflective splendour of the Sheesh Mahal and Rajasthan’s artistic traditions become the starting point for a collection that interprets heritage rather than reproducing it.
At the heart of the collection is Baavli’s highly detailed approach to hand painting. Each painted surface is developed as an original composition, created with precision and depth rather than treated as a simple motif or print. Some pieces unfold as intricate botanical artworks, while others draw from the painterly language of traditional Pichwai or the floral geometry found within Rajasthan’s palace inlays. The artwork is then built further through skilled surface craftsmanship, combining zari, sequins, aari embroidery and mirror work. On select pieces, reflective embroidery and mirrors echo the light, rhythm and ornamentation of the Sheesh Mahal.
Silk, Chanderi and organza form the foundation of the collection, chosen for the way they hold colour, movement and intricate surface work. Sheer organzas bring lightness to saris and sweeping veils, while silk and Chanderi lend richness and structure to more elaborate pieces.
The silhouettes move between saris, lehengas, sculpted and structured blouses, cropped jackets and expansive veils. Traditional Rajasthani forms such as the Aangi are reinterpreted through contemporary proportions and unexpected details, including graphic multicoloured sequin work.
Every piece is built through layers of processes rather than a single decorative technique. Painting, embroidery, zari, sequins and mirror work are brought together by skilled hands, often requiring different craftspeople to work across the same garment. The intricacy lies not only in the amount of work, but in the precision with which these techniques are composed together so that the garment reads as one complete artwork.
The World of Baisa is Baavli’s vision of Rajasthan as a living source of art and imagination, where architecture, painting and craft move from palace walls onto the body, becoming wearable works of art.
